Projects
Empowering Youth groups in Singida through modern rice production techniques
In Tanzania, rice is the second most important food and commercial crop after maize with significant national importance as a source of employment, income, and food security for millions of rural households. The country has a rapidly growing population and a political ambition to sustain rice self-sufficiency, with a margin to export to neighbouring countries in the region, through raising productivity and expanding production to areas with high potential for rice production.
The country is the second largest producer of rice in Eastern and Southern Africa after Madagascar. In 2017/18, rice was cultivated on 1.1 million hectares with total production of 2.2 million tons of milled rice. About 71, 20, and 9 percent of rice cultivation takes place under rain fed lowland, upland, and irrigated conditions, respectively.
In response to these trends, Amani farming group is implementing
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) globally agreed targets of addressing poverty, hunger, employment and economic growth by the year 2030.
The project was implemented and reached the three groups at Magungumuka village Ikungi District in Singida Region for 2019 to 2020 season. Our beneficiaries of rice farming (women, men and youth) are smallholders who produce rice for home consumption and sell the surplus directly to traders.
Empowering women to build Stronger, Inclusive Value Chain through Cashew Production
The organization works with farmers from Sekeula village which found in Manyoni District, in Singida. The organization gather more than 50 farmers of which 65% are women active in cashew production.
Our Objectives are:
-To mitigate climate change through development of cashew tree plantations that squester carbon and reduction of forest degradation and deforestation in the neighboring forests and preserve native spices which are used for medicine.
-To restore degraded soil, cashew trees have capacity to achieve it in coast effient way thus positively affect the climate through soil fertility and water quality preservation.
-To increase income of the rural population particulary women
-To reduce unemployment thus will eradicate poverty in all areas covered with project.
Sustainable and Improved Goat Raising and Herding in Chididimo Dodoma
In Tanzania, modern goat keeping has emerged as a good business opportunity due to the increased demand of meat on the market. We equip youth with knowledge about how to raise goats and become business people, including understanding the market and its demand. The project will equip youth, women and members of the Organization with the necessary soft and practical skills to become self-employed or employed goat herders, and thus improve their livelihoods on the long-term.
Project Objectives:
- To train members women and youth in how to adopt improved techniques to transform traditional goat-rearing practices into a market-oriented goat farming system which would result in healthier goats, increased productivity, and better-quality meat that met the required consumers standards.
Project Outcome:
Members and targeted youth and women participants will become catalysts for change, fostering progress not only in their own lives but also within their communities.
